Troubleshooting MDH-247 Centrifugal Monoblock Pump Discharge Issue: Elevating the Pump to Recommended Height
Pump Model: MDH-247, 3 HP, 2880 RPM, 50x50, B-CLASS
Client: Farm Owner, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
The MDH-247 Centrifugal mono block pumps are powerful pumps which can be used for various purposes like car wash, irrigation of lawns and gardens, water supply of residential bungalows etc
Situation:
Our esteemed client had made the wise decision to install our powerful MDH-247 Centrifugal Monoblock Pump for their irrigation needs. With a sizable water storage tank dedicated to irrigation purposes, they aimed to efficiently distribute water to their fields.
However, upon installation, the client noticed a discrepancy in the discharge rate of the pump, which did not align with the specifications we had provided. Concerned about this issue, they promptly contacted our dedicated toll-free helpline to register a formal complaint.
Note:
- Customers can register a complaint by calling our toll-free number, after which they will receive a text message with information about the complaint as well as the contact details of our service engineer.
- Our Engineer usually calls up to fix an appointment as per the electricity schedule of the area - as there are frequent power disruptions at some places.
Our service engineer reached the site as per the pre-scheduled appointment.
Observation:
Our service engineer reached the location and initiated a comprehensive inspection to validate the reported complaint and determine the underlying cause of the issue.
- Power Supply: As part of standard procedure, our engineer first examined the pump’s power supply if it was as per recommended levels and if it was reaching the pump’s terminal. After verifying the connections, our technician turned on the power supply.
- Pump Fan: Our engineer tried to spin the shaft (motor fan) using his screw driver.
- External Debris: Following the assessment of the power supply and the pump fan, our engineer turned his attention to the suction side, diligently inspecting for any accumulation of external debris. He also opened the pipe fittings and the volute of the pump to check the same.
- Leakage: Our engineer further conducted a thorough examination for any signs of leakage, diligently inspecting both the suction and delivery sides. He also removed and examined the foot valve to ensure its proper functionality and to detect any possible leakage or faults.
During the process of removing the foot valve, our engineer noticed the depth of the tank and inquired about it with the operator.
Findings:
- Power Supply: The power supply from the mains was within the recommended levels and properly reaching the pump's terminal.
- Pump Fan: The shaft / fan (behind the pump) was able to rotate freely.
- External Debris: No traces of external debris were detected on the suction side, pipe fittings, or the pump's volute, ensuring unobstructed water flow.
- Leakage: There was no sign of any leakage on either the suction or the delivery side.
- The depth of the tank was determined to be 25 feet, exceeding the recommended depth (18 feet) for our MDH-247 pump. This finding shed light on the root cause of the issue and prompted further action.
Solution:
After assessing the situation, our engineer suggested to the operator that they elevate the pump to a height of 15 feet, in accordance with our recommended specifications.
The operator agreed to it, and after they ensured that everything was fitted properly, they switched on the power supply, and the pump started discharging water properly.
Consequently, the pump resumed its effective water discharge, successfully resolving the initial concern (low discharge).
Remarks:
Here are some important guidelines to ensure the longevity and uninterrupted operation of your MDH-247 Centrifugal Monoblock Pump:
- Power Supply: Ensure that your MDH-247 Centrifugal Monoblock Pumps receive a continuous power supply within the specified voltage range. Single-phase pumps require 180-230 V, while 2-phase pumps need 200-400V power.
- Wiring: Properly connect the live wire to the live terminal (L) and the neutral wire to the neutral terminal (N). Any errors in wiring can lead to significant faults.
- Prevent Leakages and Debris: Regularly check for leakages and remove any debris present in the pipeline or foot valve, as they can impact the water flow.
- Suction Direction: Always use the MDH-247 Centrifugal mono block pump in the direction of positive suction to ensure optimal performance.
- Priming the Pump: Before switching on your centrifugal pump, make sure to fill the suction line with water, even if a foot valve is already installed.
- Capacitor Condition: Although rare with new pumps, a weak capacitor can cause pump malfunction. Monitor its condition periodically.
- Fan Functionality: Prior to starting the pump, verify that the fan behind the pump is free from obstructions and rotates clockwise without any issues.
- Protective Cover: Maintain a protective cover over the centrifugal pump to safeguard it from water and external particles.
- Suction Limit: Do not exceed a suction height of 18 feet when using centrifugal pumps.
- Operating at Duty Point: Operate the pump at the duty point specified by the manufacturer to ensure optimal efficiency.
Final Words:
Always follow the guidelines provided by the dealer while buying or repairing the pump. You may also refer our user manual or call our toll-free number for any assistance.
